When I was in Austria, I use the Austrian servers for updating my Ubuntu system. Unfortunately, I am in Lithuania right now, so dowloading updates from Austria takes some time (the speed is 20 kBps). So, I how to improve the speed of apt-get? The answer is very simple: just use the servers which are closer to you.
